In 2006, San Francisco Board of Supervisors amended the General Plan to allow for development of the Hunters Point Shipyard, which is a 700 acre area and was the largest undeveloped area in SF. According to California Senate Bill 18, passed in 2005, local Ohlone tribal members whose names are listed with the Native American Heritage Commission are to be included in the planning process of any such development, but none of the Ohlone representatives were contacted.

In January 2010 Ohlone representatives called for an extension on the public comment period on the draft EIR for Candlestick Point-Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco and inclusion in the planning process. This site contained four to five Ohlone village sites within the development boundaries and 16 more within a quarter mile. These sites are over 6,000 years old and were hoped to become an Ohlone Cultural Center.
