San Francisco, Oakland, Berkley, Santa Cruz, and Monterey were all once Ohlone land. There were no monuments or dedicated lands to the Ohlone community in the Bay Area as most of it has been built over. In August 2011, the Ohlone community protested against KB Home, a major national developer, and the City of Santa Cruz as they developed over Ohlone land. The land was used for gatherings for over 6,000 years and they unburied two ancestral skeletons during their development.
